Easter Camp

1st Discovery is holding a 10 day Summer Camp over the Easter School Holidays.  The camp will include badge work and fun activities. This is not a competition camp, but an opportunity for Scouts to learn day by day how to camp better, have fun and complete a lot of badges.

This Camp is open to everyone in the troop. Ideally we want the Patrols to camp as Patrols.

All parents are welcome to come and camp at any stage during the Camp but, please realise that your children are on a Scout Camp and we require them to participate in our activities. No scout will be allowed to camp or eat with their parents. Parents camping are not required to pay anything, however you must supply your own food. Parents may use the facilities available (Bathroom, shower, washing basins, canoes and Giant swing). There will be power at certain times during the day.

The Camp will take place from Saturday the 27th March 2010 till Monday the 5th April 2010. Due to the length of the camp, you are not required to be at camp for the full 10 days but the longer you are at camp, the better. We will pack everything for the Camp on the Friday (26th March 2010) night before. On Saturday we will leave the hall at 08h00.

The total cost for the camp is R35, 00 per day. If you are there for the full 10 days the cost is R350, 00. If you would like to come on camp you need to RSVP to Terence Vrugtman ASAP or fill in the form on the Easter Camp page on www.discoveryscouts.co.za . To confirm you place booking, you need to drop off your Consent Form and your money at 1 Liebenberg Street Constantia Kloof (post box or ring for Terence). I have added a Consent Form on the Download Page so you can fill it in and email it to me if you wish, however we still need your money by Wednesday.

For this long Camp we will be using Gavin’s Plot along the Vaal River.  It is 100km from Roodepoort just below the barrage. There is an ablution block with showers, toilets and drinking water.

During the camp the following activities will be offered: swimming, air rifle shooting, Bike riding, general games, small hikes, campfires, gardening, cooking, pioneering, mapping etc.

On the camp there will be plenty free time for the scouts to have fun. Because of this I would like to encourage that all scouts bring their Bicycles (puncher kit), fishing equipment, costumes (more than one towel) and anything else you would like. On the Camp we will have a series of day hikes, packing in a rucksack would be best as you can use that bag for the Hike.

Throughout the camp we will complete as many advancement badges as possible including Scoutcraft badges: Fires and cooking, Map Reading, and Camping. If Senior Scouts have specific requirements, these must be communicated to us ASAP.

If you would like to attend the camp, please advise Terence Vrugtman before the 16th March 2010. If you are not staying for the full camp, Please let Terence Know when you will be at camp.

Parents are welcome to camp for the Easter Weekend. Space will be made available for Tents and Caravans.  There are no camping fees.  Please let us know in advance so that we can make arrangements.

A map to the venue will be provided.
